  • Author: Ontario Beef

Ingredients

Scale

For the spiced beef:
250g medium ground beef
½ tsp salt
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp Lebanese 7 spices

For the hummus:
4 cups water
1 540ml can chickpeas
1 minced garlic
¼ cup lemon juice
½ cup tahini
2 tbsp plain yogurt
¼ cup water
3 ice cubes
1 tsp salt

For the Lebanese 7 spice:
1 tbsp all spice
1 tbsp cinnamon
1 tbsp coriander
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp cloves
Mix all spices together and store in a cool, dry place.

¼ cup chopped parsley
¼ cup slivered almonds
1 tbsp butter

Olive oil for drizzling

Instructions

Prepare 7 spice mixture, set aside.

  • In a pot, add water & chickpeas. Bring to a boil and simmer for 5 minutes to soften, drain, allow to cool
  • Remove skins, this is optional but makes for a smoother consistency
  • In a food processor, blend chickpeas & garlic until it resembles crumbled chickpeas
  • Add tahini, lemon, yogurt, ice & salt; blend until combined
  • Add water, blend until smooth
  • For a smoother consistency, add 1-2 tbsp more water.

Beef:

  • In a heated skillet, add ground beef with spices and cook until beef is fully cooked. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, melt butter. Add almonds and stir constantly until toasted and golden brown.

Spread hummus on a platter.  Add ground beef and top with almonds & parsley.  Drizzle olive oil over the entire platter and serve with pita or crackers.
